For a couple, we renovated a coastal apartment in Knokke. Built around a personal selection of art and design, and bordering the nearby park, this new apartment offers its residents the ideal place to come home to, right in the most vibrant part of town.

An apartment full of art
Guided by a carefully curated selection of artworks, objects and design pieces, the apartment’s interior architecture takes on an almost museum-like quality. This apartment in Knokke presents itself as a serene and refined universe in various shades of white, where controlled daylight and rich textures bring the collection to the fore and breathe life into each room. In this environment, lines, planes, detailing and the interplay of light and shadow play a particularly important role. In an interior dominated by white, they create the necessary tension and set the rhythm.

Far from being overly clinical, the material palette in the coastal apartment is defined by neutral, light, tone-on-tone hues and natural materials. A soft off-grey natural stone adorns the kitchen, while a pale, grainy cement-based floor adds warmth and tactility. Walls were opened up and even a room was sacrificed, allowing space to unfold, light to prevail and depth to flow through the apartment.
Interior with closed kitchen
Just as deliberate as it was unexpected, the residents chose to give the television a central place in the living room while visually enclosing the kitchen. The closed kitchen not only offers the cook the desired privacy, but also creates additional walls on or against which art and design objects can be elegantly highlighted. A smart move indeed – seamlessly uniting functionality and aesthetics in an apartment tailored to its residents like a perfectly fitting glove.
